Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Should you choose heads or tails when flipping a coin?

These are intriguing questions and both come into play during the Blackhorse Village Players’ production of Sequence, now being performed on their Highway 9 stage.

This performance is two plays with two storylines happening at the same time.

Written by Aun Lakra, and directed by Joan Burrows, this production has an experienced cast with storylines that challenge science, religion, luck, and probability.

In the role of Theo, Chris Cluff plays a man who is known as the luckiest man alive. He has become extremely wealthy after betting on and winning, the coin toss at the Super Bowl for 20 consecutive years.

However, the reason for his luck is a mystery.

Enter Olivia (Eun-Jung) Jon, in the role of Cynthia. Cynthia won a contest and a free copy of Theo’s book on how to be lucky.

She also has managed to discover a formula that may account for Theo’s ability to choose the winning coin toss.

Will Theo accept her theory or continue with his intuitive way of making his annual bet?

At the same time, Dr. Guzman, a university professor, played by Puneet Kuldeep Bajwa, works in her lab studying stem-cell research.

She is visited by Mr. Adamson, who is one of her students.

Ted Powers takes on the role of a student who got every single answer wrong in his mid-term exam.

At first, Dr. Guzman tries to figure out how a student could get every single answer wrong.

Mr. Admason, who is confined to a wheelchair, finally admits he follows a special ritual that he says is inspired by God, for every decision he makes.

It is revealed that while Dr. Guzman has invited Mr. Adamson to her lab to discuss his ability to fail so dramatically, she really wants a sample of his blood for her research.

Mr. Adamson’s religious beliefs don’t align with that of the Doctor’s research.

Will she convince him to allow her to draw a sample of his blood?

Sequence is cleverly written with a story that makes you think, and laugh at the same time.

Sequence is on stage a the Blackhorse Village Player’s Theatre through to June 23.

Evening performances at 8:15 p.m., with matinees at 2:15.
