A County of Simcoe Paramedic has been honoured with the Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery.
Geoff D’Eon was presented with the medal by the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, during a ceremony held at the Royal Ontario Museum on Monday, May 27.
“The medal is given to paramedics who have demonstrated great bravery without concern for their personal safety, risking their lives to save others. Nominations must be made through the nominee’s paramedic service and endorsed by their paramedic chief,” says a media release from the Ontario Government.
D’Eon, a Primary Care Paramedic, was recognized for his heroic actions during a bad snowstorm on January 13, 2024.
While off duty, Paramedic D’Eon witnessed what he thought was a motor vehicle accident on Horseshoe Valley Road and safely pulled to the side of the road to assist. When he approached the scene, D’Eon saw an injured Ontario Provincial Police officer lying on the roadway in the path of oncoming traffic.
Without hesitation, Paramedic D’Eon quickly grabbed the officer and pulled him to safety.
“On behalf of County Council, I’d like to offer my sincere congratulations to Paramedic Geoff D’Eon and all of those honoured with this year’s Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery,” said Simcoe County Warden Basil Clarke. “While it’s true that our paramedics face the unexpected with each call they take, it’s the courage they show in the moments they are compelled to act that truly shine brightest.”
