The County of Simcoe held a preview day to allow visitors and the media to see first-hand the progress being made on the construction of the Simcoe Village Campus in Beeton.

Construction is well underway with excavation complete and concrete being laid for the basement and first floor of the building.

Two large construction cranes have been erected on the site and can be seen from quite a distance.

The $350 million project is being funded by the County of Simcoe and other government partners, with the County chipping in for around half the construction costs.

When completed, the 400,000-square-foot building will provide long-term accommodation for seniors as well as other amenities. It is part of the province’s plan to create 58,000 new senior and long-term care beds in the province.

The new facility is on the east side of Simcoe Manor, originally built in 1898.

“We’re modelling this campus after our award-winning facility in Penetanguishene called Georgian Village,” said Simcoe County Warden Basil Clarke. “Once complete, it will house more housing and more long-term care. It will be a community for seniors where they can connect with their peers or they can make friends and find the support that they need as they age on through life, and have the care and services they need. This is our largest project to date, which is why we wanted to have you see it. When you see the amount of concrete and the scope of the building as its being built, you really get an eye of how large and extensive it is.”

The entire complex, including Simcoe Manor, will create its own small village.

“Currently Simcoe Manor and Village has 126 long-term care beds and 32 self-contained supportive living apartment units,” explained Jane Sinclair, General Manager of Health and Emergency Services. “In our new campus, we will have 160 long-term care beds, homes and apartment space. There will be retirement living and affordable and supportive housing. Our new village campus will become the County’s largest long-term care and senior services location. This will help us provide state-of-the-art facilities and innovative programs and services that our older adults deserve.”

Phase one of the new facility is expected to open late in 2026.
