Residents in the Green Briar area of New Tecumseth are relieved after hearing the news that the OPP has made several arrests following an investigation into thefts from automobiles in the community.
Five people have been arrested.
Early in October, the Nottawasaga detachment of the OPP received several calls reporting thefts from cars, which were followed up with fraudulent use of credit cards.
As a result of an investigation, police got warrants to search two homes and one vehicle in Barrie. After carrying out the warrants and investigating, a 24-year-old man from Tiny Township is facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime, theft, four counts of fraud, and possession of cocaine and opioids for the purpose of trafficking. He is due in court in Bradford on Dec. 1.
Two Barrie men ages 23 and 25 are facing charges including possession of an identity document, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime, fraud, and theft from a motor vehicle.
Two other Barrie residents, a 48-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man were charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
“We have had a rash of car break-ins here in Green Briar over the last couple of weeks,” said one Green Briar resident.
The Green Briar Community Centre passed on news of the arrests to relieved local residents, stating “The OPP advised they are working through contacting individuals that filed a police report. A big thank you to the OPP for continuing to make our wonderful community safe.”
