It was a fast-paced game Friday night at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre when the Alliston Hornets hosted the Stayner Siskins.
Despite peppering the Stayner goalie with 44 shots over the three periods, the Hornets managed to score only two goals for the night.
That was enough to win the game and the Alliston team added another two points to their season total with a 2 – 1 over the Siskins.
The Siskins opened the scoring early in the first period on a powerplay goal.
It was a tie game when Ben Beausaert scored at 14:07 into the period.
The only scoring in the second period happened on a powerplay when Alliston forward Ryan Sallows hit the back of the net late in the period.
That was all either team could do for the night. The third period resulted in no scoring at all and the Hornets left the ice with a 2 – 1 win.
Alliston goalie Adam Scott took only 20 shots for the entire night.
The Hornets had 44 shots on Stayner goalie Brendan Macham.
The squad was back on home ice on Sunday, January 5, when they hosted the Midland Flyers.
After playing to a 1 – 1 tie at the end of the second period, the Hornets took a short-lived lead in the third.
Midland tied the game 31 seconds later.
Alliston’s Sallows got the tie breaker at 7:33 into the period and the Hornets left the ice with a 3 – 3 win.
The win gives the Hornets 58 points for the season which not only puts them at the top of the North Carruthers Division, they are now leading the entire PJHL.
The Hornets are now 14 points ahead of the Stayner Siskins in the Division standings.
Orillia is in third place with 42 points followed by the Schomberg Cougars with 35 points and Penetang with 31.
The Hornets will be back on home ice this Friday, January 10, when they will host the Orillia Terriers at the NTRC.
