Hornets pick up another four points over the weekend

It was a three-game weekend for the Alliston Hornets with two home game and one on the road.

On Friday, November 9, they hosted the Caledon Hawks at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre but came up short when they allowed three second period Caledon goals.

The Hornets scored first when Jack Beck made good on a powerplay late in the first period.

It was a tied game when the Golden Hawks scored early in the second.

Caden Maher put the Hornets back in the lead on a powerplay goal midway through the period.

Giving up two goals placed the Hornets behind one goal going into the third period.

Caledon went ahead early in the period.

Alliston’s Joey Visconti scored on a power play late in the game but that’s all they could do for the night and the Hornets had to settle for a 4-3 loss.

The following night they travelled to Walkerton to take on the Hawks.

After opening the scoring on two goals from Ryan Twigg and Ryan Sallows in the first, the Hornets blew the game wide open scoring five times in the second frame to lead 7-2 with one period left to go.

The third period saw the Hawks attempt a big comeback but the Hornets matched them in scoring and managed to stay ahead for an 11-7 win.

The Hornets were back on the ice for their third game in as many days when they host the Wingham Ironmen from the Pollock division.

The Wingham team is currently in first place in their division.

The Hornets got the only first period goal on an effort from Keegan Gilles-McAnulty.

At the end of the second frame the Alliston squad was ahead 4-1.

They finished off the night with a single goal in the third period for the 5-3 win.

The Carruthers Division of the PJHL is turning out to be a tight battle this year.

The Stayner Siskins have moved into first place with 28 points, followed by the Caledon Golden Hawks in second, the Orillia Terriers in third and the Hornets in fourth.

The top five teams are separated by seven points.

The Hornets won’t have a home game this weekend. Instead they will be up in Huntsville to take on the Otters.
