The Alliston Junior C Hornets will start the 2022/23 season with a home game at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.

To start the new season, the Hornets will host the Schomberg Cougars.

The squad has already been on the ice playing several pre-season exhibition games.

“Our team is almost set, we are hoping to finalize our roster this weekend at our tournament,” said Hornets General Manager Blair Molto. “We have 11 players returning to us including our four overage players, Adam Hoppe, Andrew Maltby, Ben Taylor and Jakob Power. In addition to the 11 returning players, we have added two veteran players from our league. 2003 Forward Kyler MacNeil, played for Georgina Ice and is from Alliston and the second player is 2002 forward Patrick Light. He played for the Stayner Siskins and is from Wasaga Beach. To round out our roster we have added three players that were APs for this past season and some local 2004’s, 2005’s and 2006. I feel with the leadership we have combined with the skill or our players we will be an exciting team to watch this season.”

The Hornets have also lost some key personnel this year due to other commitments and players moving up to other leagues.

“Moving on from us this season are assistant coach Lucas Smilsky (work), Duncan Grube, going to the Trenton Golden Hawks OJHL, Aiden Landers Sudbury Cubs NOJHL , Jacob Norman Innisfil Spartans PJHL, Mitchell Smilsky (school), Curtis McMillian (school), Hunter Frederick (work), and Carson Wromsley (work).”

There are nine teams in the North Carruthers Division this season with the addition of the Innisfil Spartans.

Along with the Hornets and the Spartans, returning teams include the Huntsville Otters, Penetang Kings, Midland Flyers, Orillia Terriers, Caledon Golden Hawks, Schomberg Cougars, and the defending champion Stayner Siskins.

The Provincial Junior Hockey League has eight divisions with 60 teams across southern Ontario.

At the end of each League’s championship, the division winners will start to play-off in the quest for the provincial Schmalz Cup Championship.
