Hornets split the weekend with a win and a loss

The Alliston Hornets are still at .500 for the season after losing on the road in Stayner, and then winning home ice the following night.

The squad travelled to Stayner on Thursday, October 28, to take on the Siskins.

The Hornets started off well with a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

That all turned around in the second when Stayner managed to score twice to tie up, then go ahead with two more goals.

The Hornets fought back scoring two second period goals to make it a 5-4 Stayner game going into the final frame.

Stayner scored twice in the third to leave the ice with a 7 – 4 win.

The return to home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, October 29, had the Alliston Team up against the Caledon Golden Hawks.

Again, the Hornets managed to go up by two in the first period on goals from Nathan Smilsky and Parker Mills.

They kept up the pressure in the second period outscoring the Golden Hawks 3 – 1 to make it a 5 – 1 Alliston game with one period remaining.

Hornets goals came from Jakob Power, Duncan Grube, and Ben Taylor.

Two early goals in the final period and one at the mid-way mark ended the game with an 8 – 1 win for the Hornets.

Third period goals came from Andrew Maltby, Rhys Brown, and Duncan Grube.

“I thought it was a good bounce back from last night’s loss to Stayner. I thought we came out and made a message,” said Hornets Goalie Rod Lewis who got the win for the night. “It’s important that we come out after a strong first period and don’t let off the gas in the second period. We didn’t want to let them get back in the game and we just wanted to finish it off. Our defence did a good of keeping them to the outside. We got to keep going, move up in the standings, and show them who we are.”

The Hornets will be on the road with a Thursday, November 4, game in Schomberg, followed by a Saturday game in Orillia, and third weekend game in Caledon on Sunday.

They will return to home ice at the NTRC on Sunday, November 14, to host the Penetang Kings.

Game time is 6:30 p.m.
