New Tec prepares for monsters, mayhem, during Halloween Rurban invasion

The Alliston Business Improvement Association’s (ABIA) annual Rurban Monster Mash is a go!

Put on your costumes and crawl, slither, hop or fly to downtown Alliston for the best of all things rural and urban on Saturday, October 30 from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

The event, a favourite for families in New Tecumseth, is an opportunity to get a second use out of everyone’s costumes, while getting an up-close look at the businesses of the downtown core on a main street that has been closed to traffic.

And there’s candy!

“All are welcome, both young and young at heart are encouraged to dress in costumes and parade downtown,” says Linda Spurr, Alliston BIA General Manager. “The Alliston BIA will have tents set up along Victoria Street to shell-out on behalf of all those businesses who are not able to come outside.”

The Monster Mash event also coincides with the final Alliston Farmers’ Market of the season.

“The Farmers’ Market opens at 8 a.m. and we have closed Victoria Street to vehicles to allow additional space for our Spooktacular Open Air Market starting at 10 a.m.,” said Spurr. “There will be live entertainment at the market, and all along Victoria Street. Fun pop-up entertainers too! We encourage visitors to stroll all along Victoria Street as there are ABIA tents at Mill Street, Church Street and Centre Street with more information and candy.”

The Rurban Monster Mash, funded by the Alliston BIA downtown businesses, has run for over 10-years and is always held on the last day of the Rurban Farmers Market.

Due to COVID–19 restrictions, the Alliston BIA has scaled back Monster Mash events, however scheduled entertainers are: Nicole Rayy, Grant Boyer, Jeff Dunlop, the Rurban Social Distancing busker, and The Dance Workshop in Alliston.

“All COVID–19 safety precautions are in place, including additional space for social distancing,” said Spurr. “This event is intended as a community gathering with plenty of time and outdoor space for social distancing and to allow visitors to meet with some of our downtown merchants, discover the new stores and restaurants we have downtown, and do some shopping in a safe, friendly environment.”

And still to come this year, as hosted by the ABIA, is the Rurban Christmas Crawl.

“We’re excited to host another year of our Rurban Christmas Crawl [on] November 26 and 27,” said Spurr. “Traditionally this fun event starts the holidays with festive shopping, fashion shows, giveaways and more. Watch our social media and website www.rurban.ca for more details coming soon.”

Tottenham: Frightfully Fun Family Event, Saturday, October 30, 12 noon – 4 p.m. hosted by the Beeton–Tottenham Business Improvement Association (BTBIA) and local businesses through the main streets of Tottenham and Beeton. Wear your costumes and trick-or-treat with participating businesses. COVID–19 protocols in place. There will not be a pumpkin carving competition this year.

Tottenham: Annual Kids Halloween Party at Dinoland, Sunday, October 31, by appointment. Dinoland Family Fun Centre wants to give kids back a normal(ish) Halloween this year! “We are excited to be hosting our Annual Kids Halloween Costume Party,” said the facility on social media. “Facility fully sanitized between each time slot. Wear your costumes and have lots of fun during our 2 1/2 hour playtime slots. Take your own photos at our photo booth, individual crafts, activities and more! Visit our website for our COVID–19 guidelines at www.dinoland.ca. $15 per child and includes one adult per child. $10 per additional adult. No passes allowed. Admission will be paid at the door.”

Alliston: Hallows Manor, The Gibson Centre, Saturday, October 30 & Sunday, October 31, by appointment. Come trick or treat at The Gibson Centre’s two-day Halloween event, Hallows Manor.
