Ward 7
Shira Harrison McIntyre (Incumbent)
I am running to maintain continuity of leadership, especially as there are many important projects that are in the works such as: rural internet, intersection improvements at the 6th line and Sideroad 10 and the Heritage Conservation District.
We are facing an unprecedented amount of pressure for growth and there are many visions out there for how and where the town should grow. I firmly believe that the growth needs to be centred around areas that have the services people require and promote active transportation, while supporting the viability of our downtowns.
We must protect our farmland and rural areas from large scale development projects.
Guy Bonney
I want to use 32 years of my experience interacting with municipalities and the province to bring the voice of Ward 7 constituents before council and ensure their concerns and desires are appropriately considered.
Amongst other matters, Ward 7 constituents are highlighting these priorities and I agree: Control debt levels which are approaching provincial maximum limits. Promote more equitable municipal spending priorities. Take a harder more controlled line on development and urban expansion pressure. Improve and better maintain rural roads that are bearing the brunt of excessive traffic volume increases, from high population and development growth in the town.
Joe Feiner
A member of the community for 38 years, I have a strong background of volunteering and serving in our community. I have been involved with the Community Living Association for South Simcoe, a coach with Special Olympics Athletes, volunteered at Camp Hill, Rotary Club of Beeton, FAB, and the Lions Club.
This term the focus needs to be on: how growth can be managed and controlled. Streamlining expenditures. Creating strategic developer costs that ensure developers are responsible for infrastructure needs, rather than town taxpayers and our future generations.
We need to identify sustainable solutions to prioritize and resolve the financial burden we are experiencing. We need to deal with the contaminated soil that has been brought into our community.
Peter Barbati
My main reason for running is to represent our constituents with upcoming issues.
We, New Tecumseth, are facing significant headwinds due to our huge debt, and increasing external pressures that will challenge our ability to maintain service levels without significant tax increases.
I believe that we will need to increase tourism-based activities to help our local business providers while also promoting New Tecumseth to new Industry and Commercial interests. By doing this, we can help to relieve ever-increasing stresses on individual households and businesses alike.
We will need to carefully promote growth while also ensuring there are no adverse environmental repercussions.
I welcome this challenge and look forward to representing Ward 7 and the Town in general.
