Peaceful Warriors keep marching to have their voices heard

The Peaceful Warriors of New Tecumseth are continuing their protest and brought their voices to the streets of town when they staged a demonstration and march along King Street and Young Street in Alliston on Wednesday, June 23.

The group was formed to protest the building of the new Administration Centre, saying the funds would best be put towards other needed projects in town.

“This is the continuation, to bring more awareness to what we are doing,” said Peaceful Warriors spokesperson Joe Feiner. “We want more people to join us. We want to educate people about what really is going on, and to protest what’s going on in Council, like the last Council meeting when we all got deputized to speak.”

Mr. Feiner said they hope this latest protest will get their message out to the community.

“It’s all about community awareness,” Mr. Feiner said. “We’re almost at 1,700 members now.”

The group gathered with signs and a banner with their new logo at the corner of Young Street and King Street, then marched up to Victoria Street.

Many motorists honked their horns in a support and several stopped to sign a petition the group is collecting signatures for.

The Peaceful Warriors have been very vocal about their opposition to the planned new town administration centre.

The motion to go ahead with the administration centre was passed on June 14, with six council members voting for, and four voting against going ahead with the plan.

At that meeting 16 local residents requested to speak with thirteen residents voicing opposition to the plan and three saying they were in favour of the project.
