It was a low-scoring game, but the Alliston Hornets still picked up two points with a 2-1 win over the Caledon Golden Hawks on Friday (Oct. 20) night at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
All the Alliston scoring was done in the first period.
Owen Fralick scored the first goal of the night 10:11 into the first period.
A second goal from Cam Lamont with just over a minute and a half remaining in the period gave the Hornets a two-goal lead.
There was no scoring in the second period.
In the final frame, the Golden Hawks robbed Hornets goalie Parker Barnard of the shut-out when they hit the back of the net with just 1:34 left on the clock.
The 2-1 win gave the Hornets another two points, leaving them in second place in the North Carruthers division with 16 points and an 8-2 record.
The Stayner Siskins have taken over first place in the division with an 8-3 record and 16 points.
In the number three spot, the Orillia Terriers are close behind with 14 points. They are followed by the Schomberg Cougars with 14 points.
The Penetang Kings and Caledon Golden Hawks each have ten points.
The Huntsville Otters, Midland Flyers, and Innisfil Spartans are all struggling to get on the plus side in their records this year.
It is a very competitive season in the North Carruthers Division this year, with first place already changed several times.
There has been a change in the Hornets bench. Head coach Dave Kelly has been removed from the position.
As of Friday, a permanent replacement had not been announced.
