The Alliston Hornets had a stellar week, winning two games and remaining in first place by six points. On Thursday, Nov. 30, the Hornets played an away game against the Stayner Siskins.
The Siskins took an early lead in the game, scoring on the only two goals in the first period.
Alliston tied it up in the second period with goals from Cole Turcotte and Cal Stinson, who scored just two minutes into the period.
The Siskins responded with a third goal 38 seconds later to take a 3-2 lead.
Payton Palbiski scored for the Hornets mid-way in the period to make it a tie game going into the third.
Stayner again broke the tie at the 9:02 mark in the third.
Turcotte stepped up again and scored at 16:13 to re-tie the game. The Hornets took the 5-4 win when Clayson Goymour got the tiebreaker with 1:35 remaining in the game.
The Hornets were back at it the following night when they hosted the Midland Flyers at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
It was the second game in a week for the two teams. The Hornets won 4-0 over Midland at the NTRC the previous Friday.
It was pretty much a turkey shoot for the Hornets, who kept the play for most of the game in the Flyers’ end.
At the end of the first period, the Hornets were leading 2-0.
At the end of the second, they had stretched that lead to 8-0. Four more Alliston goals in the third period ended the game with a 12-0 win.
Alliston goalie Parker Barnard got the shut-out for the second week in a row. The Flyers managed a dismal 15 shots on goal for the game compared to 64 for the Hornets.
The two wins placed the Hornets in a solid first place in the division with 38 points – six points ahead of the Stayner Siskins.
Orillia has dropped to third place, with the Schomberg Cougars in fourth place.
It will be an epic battle this week when the Hornets host the Stayner Siskins on the ice at the NTRC on Friday, Dec. 8.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
