Former Chief of Staff at Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH), Dr. Trevor Hunt, is being mourned by family, friends, and coworkers.
Dr. Hunt passed away on Feb. 4 at age 90.
Dr. Hunt was a pediatrician at SMH, starting in 1975, and was the hospital’s Chief of Staff for 11 years.
Well-loved by staff at the hospital, Dr. Hunt is remembered for his sense of humour, extensive knowledge, and kind and caring demeanour.
A practicing physician for over 40 years, he was recognized for his work in 2010 as the first recipient of the Dr. Alexander MacIntyre Award for Excellence and Dedication in the Community and Medical Field. Several colleagues at the hospital and local clinics nominated him for the award.
In 2015, SMH recognized Dr. Hunt and Dr. Nigel Gripper with a tree planted in their honour and an accompanying plaque as an ‘unsung hero.’
“Dr. Hunt was a true leader who’s legacy will live on at Stevenson Memorial Hospital for years to to come,” said SMH president and CEO Jody Levac. “The time and commitment he gave his patients for decades will never be forgotten. We will ensure his legacy lives on and his tree is replanted as our redevelopment comes to fruition.”
Current Chief of Staff, Dr. Jaco Scheeres said Dr. Hunt was an inspiration.
“Dr. Hunt worked well into his later years, he was so dedicated to his role as a physician, and ultimately his patients and our community,” Dr. Scheeres said. “He never let go of his sense of humour, no matter what situation was at hand. He is a shining example of what a physician should be, and it was an honour to know him.”
The Canadian flag at SMH was lowered in honour of Dr. Hunt’s passing.
