When Tottenham resident Eva Bradley began her quest to raise money for two local good causes back in February, she decided it would be her last fundraising effort.
After over four decades of raising thousands of dollars for good causes, Eva decided to have one final effort called Toonies for Tecumseth in a bid to raise money in support of the Tottenham Food Bank and S.H.I.F.T in Alliston.
After 10 months, she is close to her goal of raising $10,000.
Over the course of the year, she has hosted a bake sale at the Tottenham Legion and has been at several local festivals selling baked goods and crafts. She was helped by several friends and supporters along the way.
She has also raised funds by placing donation jars in several local businesses that agreed to help her out.
This Sunday, Nov. 17, will be her 83rd birthday, and the final day of the initiative.
In one final effort to raise funds, she has partnered with the Cedar Kitchen restaurant in Tottenham.
On Sunday, the proceeds from every coffee sold on that day will go to Toonies for Tecumseth.
“All the coffee sales on Sunday, 100 per cent, will be going to Eva’s cause,” said Cedar Kitchen owner Sherri Bailey.
Ms. Bradley is close to her goal but just needs a little more help to finish off the campaign. You can drop into the Cedar Kitchen to have something to eat and enjoy a coffee while you’re there, or just get a coffee to go.
“This is our hurrah after a year,” Ms. Bradley said. “We’re coming to the end of Toonies for Tecumseth, and Sherri is doing a wonderful thing to help us try to reach our goal. I’m also baking right now so we’re also going to bake sale at the restaurant. I want to remind everyone they still have time to come out and support Sherri and support Toonies for Tecumseth. We hope we are going to reach our goal.”
Ms. Bradly had a lot of support from people in other provinces who once lived in New Tecumseth but moved away to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and even Saskatchewan.
Through social media, they heard about Toonies for Tecumseth and made a donation to support their former town.
