If you are planning to set off some fireworks to celebrate a holiday this year, you should be aware that the Town of New Tecumseth has amended the fireworks by-law regarding allowable days that fireworks can be discharged.
There are only three holidays where fireworks can legally be used within the Town. These are Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Diwali Day.
You can set off fireworks one day prior to, and one day after each holiday only.
Previously, the allowable time was five days prior and after.
It should also be noted that Flying Lantern type devices are not permitted and have been added to the prohibited list of non-approved fireworks.
Flying Lanterns have an open flame which can be dangerous if they land on buildings or property.
Fireworks are not allowed to be set off on in a town park, street, parking lot, or any private property that is not your own.
Fireworks must only be set off by people age 18 years and older, unless under the direct supervision and control of an adult.
You should only set off fireworks in a place away from buildings and trees. Never hold a firework in your hand when discharging and never point fireworks at a person or object.
The Town has a full list of fireworks handling and safety tips on its website that you should be aware of to have a successful and safe fireworks display.
