The New Tecumseth Civics held on to their undefeated record after winning Thursday (Oct. 13) night’s game against the Almaguin Spartans in overtime.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the first period and were matched by the Civics a minute-and a-half later to end the frame on a tie.
Brendan Barron notched the opening Alliston goal.
Civics’ forward Cullen Bonnel scored the only goal of the second period just 40 seconds into the frame, but that was all either team could do and they returned for the third period with New Tecumseth leading 2-1.
The Civics opened the lead to two goals in third period action when Carmine Vietri found the back of the Almaguin net.
The lead evaporated when the Spartans followed up with two goals that tied the game at three with just over half the period remaining.
Returning for overtime the game was settled when Vietri got of his second goal of the game at 15:15 into the OT period to give the Civics the 4-3 win.
The win leaves the Civics in first place in the standings and are now the only undefeated team in the League.
Parry Sound is close behind in second place with a 10-2 record followed by London with 20 points and Niagara and the Bradford Rattlers tied for the fourth spot with 18 points each.
The Civics will be back in action tonight (Thursday) when they host the South Muskoka Shield at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
