Council passes no trespass motion against “violent person”

New Tecumseth Town Council passed a motion to issue a “no trespass notice” against a local man who was arrested at Town Hall after he issued “significant threats” to staff members.

At the Committee of the Whole meeting on January 17, Town CAO Blaine Parkin, reported there had been two in-person incidents at the Town Hall in recent months.

The first incident involved a person having “substance” issues and was resolved with the help of police and county paramedics.

The second incident involved a person who became “very hostile” and uttered “significant threats” to staff.

The person was at Town Hall and returned later. The incident took place when he returned.

This required the building to be locked down and police were called. Charges were laid and the person has a court appearance on January 20.

As a result, it was discussed if a “no trespass” or “restraining order” could be applied to this individual.

Several options were discussed during the meeting including a court order and the Town issuing a “no trespass” order against the individual telling them they are not allowed to attend Town facilities.

A motion was tabled to “no trespassing notice be issued until the court case is resolved.”

The no trespass order would be applied to all Town facilities.

The motion was passed with all councillors voting in favour.
