With reliable and affordable high-speed internet now a basic need for most people, the governments of Canada and Ontario will bring high-speed access to unserved and underserved communities across the province.
It has been announced that $54 million in combined federal and provincial funding for Rogers Communications will bring high-speed internet access to more than 20,000 homes in 83 underserved communities in Ontario.
“Today’s announcement regarding high-speed internet access will have significant benefit for area residents and businesses,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “I am pleased to share that 5,406 households in Adjala-Tosorontio, Essa, and New Tecumseth will now have the opportunity to connect. The following communities have been included in this phase of the project: Alliston, Angus, Ballycroy, Baxter, Beeton, Borden, Colgan, Connor, Everett, Ivy, Lisle, Loretto, New Wasaga Beach, Rosemont, and Thornton.”
The announced projects are part of an existing partnership between Ontario and Canada. On July 29, 2021, the two levels of government announced their partnership to support large-scale, fibre-based projects that will provide high-speed internet access to more than 280,000 households and businesses across the province.
This agreement was made possible by a joint federal/provincial investment totalling more than $1.2 billion.
The province of Ontario has launched a new interactive online map that shows where provincially funded high-speed internet projects are planned, currently underway, or have been recently completed in communities across the province.
You can see this map by visiting Ontario.ca/highspeedinternet and searching by address, community, or municipality to learn more about provincially funded high-speed internet projects and where high-speed internet service is currently available.
