If you are a landowner looking to restore and enhance your water quality and wildlife habitat, the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority offers programs to help.
The Healthy Waters Program provides landowners and community groups with funding and technical assistance for environmental projects on their property. This helps to restore rivers and streams and improves fish and wildlife habitat.
The Rural Water Quality Program grant offers incentives for landowners in Dufferin County to improve and protect water quality.
Qualified landowners and farmers receive financial assistance to share the cost of projects.
Grants range from 50 to 100 per cent, to a maximum of $5,000, depending on the type of project. Project sites must be located in Dufferin County.
The NVCA’s Forestry Program provides professional tree-planting services and grants to landowners throughout the Nottawasaga Watershed.
Landowners with 2 to 2.4 acres of planting space in the Nottawasaga Watershed are eligible for funding.
Planting trees helps to provide wildlife habitat, shade rivers and streams, and produces oxygen, among other benefits.
Well-managed forests also contribute to the economy by providing wood for construction and wood fibre for products such as paper.
The NVCA has a minimum requirement of one hectare (2 acres) of planting space to be eligible.
Grant availability depends on property size and location and ranges between 60 to 80 per cent of tree planting costs for 2024.
