If you think you can spell just about any word, the Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee offers a chance to show your knowledge of the dictionary.

In support of the Literacy Council of South Simcoe’s Next Step Literacy Program, the Spelling Bee tests contestants on their spelling abilities while raising funds for a good cause.

This is the 13th annual Spelling Bee event.

Teams of adults dressed in costumes compete for the honour of being crowned the best spellers.

It won’t be an easy night of spelling simple words. As the night goes on, the spelling challenges become tougher.

On top of crowning the best spelling team, there are also prizes for best costume, most team spirit, and the most pledges raised.

The audience can also win in a Play-Along Round.

The evening includes a dinner, dessert buffet, silent auction, and a 50/50 draw.

This year, author Rod Carley will be the honoured guest.

Funds raised support Next Step Literacy’s mission of providing free one-to-one adult tutoring in essential skills such as reading, writing, math, and computer literacy.

The event will take place at The Club at Bond Head (4805 7th Line, Beeton), beginning at 5 p.m.

The cost to register a team is $250, with a minimum of three people per team and a maximum of 12.

Registration includes dinner and entertainment.
