It was a payback game for the Alliston Hornets when they hosted the Orillia Terriers at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Five days earlier, the Hornets gave up a 5-3 loss to Orillia when they travelled north on Saturday, Oct. 7, to take on the Terriers on their home ice.
The rare mid-week game saw the Terriers score first when they hit the back of the Alliston net midway in the first period.
The Hornets responded one minute later when Mark Coish scored to tie it up.
Alliston went ahead when Cole Turcotte scored late in the period.
Both teams stormed onto the ice in the second period in a fast-paced game, with both squads working hard to get an advantage.
The Terriers tied the game just 38 seconds into the third period.
Alliston went ahead when Nick Winiarczyk scored later in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period, and the Hornets left the ice with a 3-2 win.
The win gave the Hornets two more points for a solid first place in the division with 14 points – four points ahead of the second place Stayner Siskins.
In third place in the division, the Schomberg Cougars have four wins after six games.
Orillia is now in third place with a 4-2 record.
The Penetang Kings are in fifth place, followed by the Huntsville Otters.
The Caledon Golden Hawks are struggling to get on the plus side and have a 3-5 record. They are followed by the Midland Flyers in eighth place with a 2-4 record.
In the basement, the Innisfil Spartans have yet to win a game after seven times on the ice.
The Hornets will return to home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Oct. 20, when they will host the Caledon Golden Hawks.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
