The Alliston Hornets are done for the season after taking a 3-2 loss to the Stayner Siskins in Game Seven of their best-of-seven North Carruthers semi-final series.

The final game was a real battle that went into double overtime to decide the winner.

After trailing 2-1 at the end of the first period, the Hornets tied it up in the second on a goal from Ben Beausaert midway in the period.

Neither team could score to break the tie in the third and after a break, they returned for an overtime period.

There was no scoring in OT, and the teams returned for a second overtime period.

Stayner got the winning goal just 39 seconds into the second OT period to win the series and earn the right to advance to the Division final.

The Hornets had a good season finishing fourth in the regular season standings.

The second, third, and fourth place teams finished only one point apart in the final standings, setting up the playoffs to be a real battle between some evenly matched teams.

In the quarter-final round the Hornets dispatched the Penetang Kings in four games.

It was a good start for the Alliston squad going into the semi-final. They won Game One of the series, 3-2 on March 24, then followed up with a 4-2 win on home ice on Friday, March 25.

Game Three of the series ended with a 3-0 shut-out for the Hornets in Stayner, giving Alliston fans the hope that they could finish it off on home ice in Game Four.

The Siskins responded with a 4-1 win to keep the series alive then followed up with a 4-3 win on home ice in Game Five.

Game Six in Alliston on Friday, April 1, was a disappointment for Alliston fans at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre when Stayner scored four unanswered goals in the first period. That game ended with a 5-1 win for the Siskins and the series would come down to one game to decide the winner.

The final game was an afternoon game in Stayner on Sunday, April 3.

The Stayner Siskins will now advance to the North Caruthers Division Championship series and face the Schomberg Cougars in a battle win the division.

The Cougars dispatched the Orillia Terriers in seven games in their semi-final series.

The winner of the North Carruthers Division will enter the Conference playoffs on the road to the provincial Schmalz Cup Junior C championship.
