Every team is beatable.
The Alliston Hornets’ 28-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night (Jan. 10) at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre when they came up short against the Muskoka Bears in a game that was decided with a shoot-out after an overtime period failed to produce a winner.
While it was the first loss for the Hornets, it was a huge victory for the Bears who came to the arena as a last place team who have won only two games all season before Friday night.
Alliston’s Cam Lamont started the scoring with the only goal of the first period.
It was the second period that cost the Hornets big time when Muskoka scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead.
The Bears were ahead 4-1 when they scored at 2:30 into the final period.
The Hornets responded by scoring three times in the third period to tie the game at four but they couldn’t get the winning goal.
Hornets’ goals came from Jax Bellwood, Cole Turcotte, and Jaeden French.
The teams returned for an overtime period but that failed to produce a winner when neither team could score.
The game went to a shoot-out to decide the winner.
The Bears outscored the Hornets 2-0 in the shoot-out to take the win.
The Hornets remain in first place in the North Carruthers Division with 57 points – 10 points ahead of the second place Orillia Terriers.
Alliston forward Jaeden French continues to chalk-up points this season averaging one goal per game. French is now in second place in the player stats with 28 goals and 43 assists for the season – good for 71 points.
The Hornets were in Huntsville on Jan. 14, to take on the Otters. Results were not available at press time.
They do not have a home game this weekend.
The Hornets will return to home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Jan. 22, when they will host the Midland Flyers.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
