The Alliston Hornets picked up four more points after winning both home games at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7.

Friday’s game against the Huntsville Otters was pretty much over after the first period when the Hornets scored six unanswered goals to start the game.

Hornets’ first-period goals came from Tristen Pitt, Noah Cochrane, Jacob Holmes, and a hattrick by Jaeden French who scored two goals 33 seconds apart, then followed up with a third goal just over three minutes later.

Huntsville scored early in the second period.

The response was three more Alliston goals from Tristen Pitt, Jacob Holmes and David Harvey.

Nick Lamont and Duncan Grube picked up the final two Alliston goals in the third period to give the Hornets an 11-3 win.

“I think it was a statement from us to come out with six in the first period,” said Hornets forward Jaeden French after Friday’s game. “We had our game plan and we followed through with it, and it worked out for us.”

The Hornets out-shot the Otters 66-22 for the game.

“We’re a defensive team first, so we make sure we take care of our own end and that translates to offence in their end,” French said. “Confidence level on the team has never been so high. We’re feeling good. We smacked Orillia the other night, then came here and smacked Huntsville tonight. It was nice to do that and get the four points. We’re going to keep doing what we do. We treat every game like it’s a playoff game every time we show up at the rink, and every practice too. We’re a hard working team and we’re going to continue to do our thing.”

The Hornets were back on the ice the following day to host the Penetang Kings.

Cole Turcotte scored the opening and only first period goal just past the midway in the first.

The Hornets were leading 4-0 in the second period when Jax Bellwood, Will Hopcroft, and Tristen Pitt scored.

Penetang lit up the scoreboard late in the second period scoring two goals just a minute and a half apart, to make it a 4-2 game with one period remaining.

Neither team could hit the back of the net in the first half of the third period.

Alliston forward Mark Coish scored at 11:24 with the final goal of the game.

The Hornets left the ice with a 5-2 win. After 21 games, the Hornets are still undefeated and are in first place in the North Carruthers Division of the PJHL.

The Hornets will have a big game on Thursday, Dec. 12, when they take the trip to Stayner to meet the Siskins with an 8 p.m. start.

They will return to home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Dec. 13, to host the Muskoka Bears.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
