The MJT Humber College PGM series that took place at the Woodington Lake Golf Club on August 13 – 14 battled some wild weather while competing for titles in six age divisions.
Players were also earning Order of Merit points to qualify for the MJT National Championship in Orlando coming up in November.
On the second day of competition, there was a lengthy rain and lighting. The final round had to be stopped due to safety concerns as lighting radar showed the activity would continue.
The scoring for day two of the event was determined by the greatest number of holes all players completed in each division.
The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is Canada’s number one-played Junior Golf Tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the “Road to College Golf” in Canada.
The MJT Junior Boys division complete all 36 holes of the event. Arthur Wang, 17, of Markham, was the winner shooting 83 and 77, holding off a three-way tie for second place only one stroke back.
“I have been in a slump this past month, it’s nice to finally see a normal result,” Arthur said after the win. “I gave myself a lot of good looks for birdie and some nice putts. I am a very calm guy, but when my game is in bad shape, I like to take deep breaths and go back to my routine habits.”
In the U15 girls division, Keisha Han, 10, from Toronto, came out on top in her very fist MJT event. Over 20 holes played, she had a score of 90, (with only two holes finished for the second round).
“I feel pretty good about winning the division, I never could have guessed that I could have won,” Keisha said. “On the first hole, I made a chip in from twelve yards out that was the highlight of the two rounds.”
The next event on the MJT Tour is the G&G Brands Classic at Carlisle Golf & Country Club, in Carlisle, ON.
