Alliston’s newest healthcare clinic, Little Piggies Footcare, is now open and helping patients with foot problems related to a variety of conditions and diseases.
Treatment at the clinic helps people cope with certain conditions in their daily life. They also provide diabetes coaching and education, support groups and events, and wound care with a specialized nurse who has expertise in wounds.
The clinic was opened by registered nurse and certified diabetes educator Amanda Mooij, who brought on two other experienced registered nurses, Anita Wilson and Anita D’Souza, to help and support their clients.
“I specialize in anything to do with the lower limbs,” Amanda explained. “That includes circulation issues, nail issues, and many more. To refer us, your physician would know who we are, and we accept walk-ins at this location as well.”
Amanda has experience as a cardiac and community nurse, and she knows the community well.
“If someone’s feet hurt, and they don’t know why, or if there is discolouration, anything they are concerned about, or not able to walk properly, they should be seeking help for that,” Amanda explained. “Even for something like you can’t reach your feet or see your toenails. If you can’t see your toenails you shouldn’t be trimming them, so you don’t hurt yourself.”
Prior to opening the location, Amanda was a mobile provider, going to people’s homes.
“We have a mobile aspect to this including going to retirement homes, nursing homes, and long term care,” Amanda said. “This allows us to do foot care and also allows us to teach about diabetic care. Our goal is to keep people walking longer and stay independent.”
The clinic held a grand opening on Saturday, April 22, to let local residents know they are open and available to help anyone with lower limb issues.
The clinic is located at 6 Mill Street in Alliston.
