The theme of International Women’s Day for 2025 is ‘Accelerate Action.’
Focusing on the need to Accelerate Action, emphasized the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality.
International Women’s Day calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face in both their personal and professional lives.
Significant barriers to gender equality remain and International Women’s Day brings awareness that with the right action and support, positive progress can be made for women everywhere.
Several local groups and organizations in New Tecumseth will celebrate International Women’s Day with different events on the day, and throughout the year.
At the New Tecumseth Public Library, the Kanopy Club is celebrating International Women’s Day by hosting a discussion about the first film of the modern women’s movement, titled, “Growing Up Female.”
This film was widely used by consciousness-raising groups to generate interest and help explain feminism to a skeptical society. The film looks at female socialization through a personal look into the lives of six women, aged 4 to 35, and the forces that shape them.
This will offer participants a chance to see how much has changed, and how much has remained the same.
The event takes place on March 13 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is free to attend. For more information, please contact Kim at adultservices@ntpl.ca.
The Simcoe Area Women’s Institute will be hosting a Women’s Day event on April 26. Members of the Tec-We-Gwill Women’s Institute will be attending.

This event will take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 170 Steel Street in Barrie.
