Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston has lowered its mask requirements effective June 27.
The changes are being implemented based on recent guidance from provincial experts and from the COVID-19 Community Risk Assessment posted by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
The current Risk Assessment is low.
Masks are now optional for staff, physicians, patients, visitors, and contractors in public and common spaces in the hospital, including the cafeteria, nursing stations, staff lounges, hallways, and any waiting areas where patients are not present.
Masks remain mandatory for staff, physicians, patients, visitors and contractors while providing or receiving direct care or indirect or prolonged patient contact.
Masks must also be worn in waiting areas where patients are present. This includes the Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, Outpatient Clinics, and Labour and Delivery.
“SMH is a mask-friendly, inclusive environment and we thank your community for their diligence in following COVID-19 policies and procedures throughout the course of the pandemic,” said Julia Mullen, VP of Clinical Services & CNE, at SMH.
