A new Seniors Active Living Centre in New Tecumseth will be located in Beeton.
MPP for Simcoe-Grey, Brian Saunderson made the announcement at a special ceremony at the New Tecumseth administration building when a flag was raised to recognize Seniors Month by Community & Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS).
Joining MPP Saunderson at the event was Scarborough North MPP Raymond Cho, Minister of Seniors and Accessibility.
This is one of 100 new Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) programs opening across the province this year to help improve seniors’ quality of life and build community engagement.
“The new CHATS’ Seniors Active Living Centre, in partnership with the town of New Tecumseth, will be a great addition to the community,” MPP Saunderson said. “Keeping active and interacting with others is vital to a healthy life, especially as we age. This program will bring seniors together and introduce them to new activities that promote wellness and fitness, with the goal of maintaining their independence and improving their quality of life.”
Senior Active Living Centres help keep seniors fit, active, healthy, and socially connected in their communities and close to their homes.
“Through the Seniors Active Living Centre program, we are helping protect the well-being of seniors by providing opportunities to reduce social isolation, keep active, improve mental health and ensure that older adults remain connected to their communities,” said Minister Cho. “CHATS’ dedication to promoting community identity and supporting seniors is commendable, and we are honoured to contribute to their continued success.”
SALC programs offer seniors and older adults learning opportunities such as financial management and elder abuse prevention and a variety of recreational and social activities including fitness, healthy lifestyle and wellness classes that are important supports in communities.
