The Ministry of Health has appointed a new supervisor for Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) to oversee the hospital’s operations and strengthen its governance and accountability.

The new supervisor is Carmine Stumpo.

Stumpo will replace Eric Hanna who was appointed as the supervisor of the hospital on Sept. 26, 2024.

Stumpo brings over 25 years of healthcare experience as a clinician and leader in a wide range of clinical and support services. Since July 2018, Stumpo has served as president and CEO of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and has been a strong advocate for high-quality, local healthcare, providing strategic leadership in transforming care through integration in close partnership with primary care and community service providers.

The appointment of a new supervisor for the hospital was in response to the final report submitted by Janice Skot. Skot was appointed as investigator for Stevenson Memorial Hospital in February 2024 to review concerns that were raised about the hospital’s governance, management, and patient care.

Before his departure, Hanna will work with Stumpo to ensure a smooth transition.

Stumpo will provide the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health with regular updates on his work that will help strengthen and improve the hospital’s governance, accountability, finances and ability to deliver the best possible care to patients and their families.

During Stumpo’s tenure as supervisor, regular operations at Stevenson Memorial Hospital will continue, including progress on the hospital’s redevelopment project.

People needing care at SMH will continue to be able to access all regular programs and services.
