New Tecumseth Town Council has agreed to spend an additional $735,000 to furnish the new Administration Centre that is nearly completed in Alliston.
The original budget had $1.45 million allocated for furnishings. However, that money was reallocated during construction to pay for change orders in the project. The project was started in September 2021 and has had several delays, pushing back the original opening date.
The project’s final cost is still unknown as some cost overruns have increased the final tally of what the entire project will amount to.
There is still no firm date as to when town staff will start moving into the new building.
Council started looking at options when it was realized that the budget for furnishing the new project had already been used to complete the construction phase.
A discussion about re-using existing furnishings was part of the debate. As a result, around 25 desks from the current administration building on Wellington Street East will be moved to the new building.
The furnishings will include new high-density storage shelves.
