The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority is looking for individuals who want to experience a rewarding and exciting summer employment experience.
They are seeking students who will take on the role of camp counsellors.
Key responsibilities include the direct supervision and leadership of individual day camper groups.
Daily responsibilities include camper sign-in and sign-out, and greeting parents at the start and end of every day.
Counsellors will ensure the well-being and safety of campers by monitoring their daily needs and reminding them to wear hats and have water bottles, sunscreen and insect repellent.
They will also lead activities and prove a variety of theme-based activities to offset Tiffin programming blocks.
Counsellors will also be responsible for putting away all program equipment and assisting with general tidiness of facilities and craft room, facilitating camper’s choice activity sessions by providing program ideas and leadership when required as well as gathering needed equipment and supplies.
Counsellors must also be prepared to do end-of-day ‘chores’ such as composting, dishwashing, help to prepare for the next day, and counsellors may assist with visiting camps and other duties as assigned.
To be a counsellor, you must be mature, able to work in a fast-paced environment and be proficient in multi-tasking while working effectively with minimal supervision.
An interest in outdoor pursuits, science, nature, environmental education, teaching or a related career is an asset.
Experience with children through camp, co-op placement, daycare, babysitting, or coaching is required.
Standard First Aid with Level C CPR is required, and lifeguarding experience with Bronze Cross is considered an asset.
The position will be for up to eight weeks. Salary is $15.60 per hour for students and $16.55 per hour for a 35-hour work week.
