The regular season for the North Dufferin Baseball League’s (NBDL) Junior Division wrapped up on Sunday, July 13, with the Creemore Padres securing a first-place finish in the division.
Creemore capped off a dominant season with a record of 15-2-1, which is good for 31 points. They finished a full 10 points ahead of the second and third-place teams.
The division had seven teams this season competing in an 18-game schedule.
There was a change in teams that made it to the playoffs.
The top six teams secured a berth in the playoff line-up. However, the Bradford Tigers, who were in sixth place and qualified for the playoffs, forfeited two games in the final week. This resulted in the team’s suspension and subsequent removal from league play.
As a result, all remaining teams will head into the playoffs including the Richmond Hill Phoenix, who were in seventh place.
Beyond Creemore’s outstanding performance in the season, the standings were tightly contested.
Both Innisfil Cardinal teams finished with 21 points. The Orillia Royals and Barrie Red Sox ended the season tied at 18 points.
The Creemore and Cardinal teams have earned first-round byes in the playoffs.
The Junior playoffs got underway on July 16 with a best-of-three or first-to-six-points format.
