National Public Works Week is coming up from May 18 to 24, and there will be an opportunity for the public to see the inner workings of Town infrastructure as well as some of the valuable equipment that keeps the town in shape.
This year’s theme is “People. Purpose. Presence.” The theme underscores three key principles that drive public works professionals to serve their communities every day.
Public works professionals find their purpose in serving the needs of the community. Their efforts often go unnoticed because when everything functions well, public works remain invisible.
This year, the Town of New Tecumseth will be celebrating Public Works Week with several events.
You can tour the Brendan Holly Wastewater Treatment Facility and see how dirty water is transformed into clean water using advanced technology. It’s a fascinating process that protects public health and the environment.
The Wastewater Treatment Facility is located at 6314 14th Line, Alliston. Tours will take place on Thursday, May 22, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
There is no need to register, you can just show up for a tour.
The popular ‘Touch-a-Truck’ event will return to the Alliston Memorial Arena for National Public Works Week.
This event will feature a variety of trucks and big machines used to carry out work around town.
In addition to all the equipment on display, there will be fun activities, a food truck, giveaways, games and prizes.
Touch-a-Truck will occur on Friday, May 23, from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
There will be a donation drive in support of both the Alliston Food Bank and Our Town Food Bank in Tottenham for National Public Works Week. You can drop off non-perishable food items and other wish list items at the following locations from Friday, May 16, to Friday, May 23:
