Reuniting the lost dogs of the Ukraine with their fur-parents, one smile at a time

On Friday, April 15th, Kissable K9 Care Inc. hosted a fundraiser for the animals of the Ukraine.

On that day, K9 Care owner Jill Thompson, and Mobile Operator Amanda, raised $,1350 for a reputable Ukrainian animal shelter, while providing shiny new smiles for dogs and cats in Tottenham, Alliston and Beeton.

“We wanted to do something for the animals of Ukraine which is so desperately needed,” said Jill. “Amanda was able to raise funds through her services and client donations. The funds have been donated to Four Paws to help reunite dogs with their families as well as help distribute food and care to shelters in need across Ukraine. In addition to the services being offered to my clients for this fundraiser, I was so impressed with how many of my clients wanted to donate even more funds on top of the service.”

Missed the fundraiser and still want to contribute? Jill is accepting e-transfers to Amandak9care@gmail.com

“Amanda also collects and donates much needed food and supplies that are shipped to the Northern Dogs in Manitoba,” adds Jill. “We believe in giving back and we will continue to do fundraisers like this in the future.”

Kissable K9 Care Inc. opened 10 years ago, and serves most parts of Ontario.

Jill started her business after working in the pet industry and seeing the need.

“We offer canine cosmetic teeth cleaning above the gum line. Although it is not a replacement for a veterinarian cleaning, the cosmetic cleaning improves the look of your dog’s teeth, and the smell of their breath,” said Amanda. “We generally clean all breeds of dogs and cats unless they are aggressive. A cosmetic cleaning generally takes around 45 minutes to an hour depending on how dirty the animal’s teeth are. We have some clients who like to have their pet serviced every three months, but generally six months to a year is the usual return time for a customer.”

Amanda says, “If your pet’s breath is starting to really smell, it may be time to have their teeth cosmetically cleaned.”

She says to look for the yellow colour of tartar and plaque that usually forms at the top of the tooth where it meets the gums.

On the day of the appointment, Amanda says she welcomes the client and their fur baby into her mobile store.

“Then we have the client fill out a liability waiver and ask if they have any questions or concerns about the service. We then work our magic to create a relaxing and comfortable environment for your fur baby by lightly spraying the room with lavender oils, swaddling him or her in a blanket in the technician’s lap and using massage techniques while they are awake,” said Amanda. “The comfort of your dog is always our top priority. We provide cosmetic teeth cleaning by using hand instruments above the gum line to scale the teeth. We provide the client with before and after pictures of their fur baby’s teeth to show results and we teach them how they can maintain results.”

Amanda shares that her team protects themselves from being bit and from communicable disease by taking all appropriate sanitary measures. “All equipment used has been sterilized prior to use on your pet. We’ve been trained to understand animal behaviour and when a dog might become aggressive. There have been surprisingly few incidents of a dog biting over our ten years being in business. We expect all dogs to have had the appropriate veterinary shots prior to attending our clinics.”

Jill has three dogs and two cats of her own – all of which are rescues.

“My partner and I are softies for an animal in need which is why we have so many fur-kids,” said Jill. “We rescued our dog Cayo from Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba, which was the best and rewarding thing we ever did. We saved her from the harsh hands of humans on the streets of Cuba a few years ago. Of all of our dogs, she is by the far the greatest and she shows us her gratitude every day. Otis is a nine-pound mini poodle which we foster and he is full of love and kisses. We also have Greg which is a Bernedoodle and also a foster and everyone in our family fights over babysitting him because he is so much fun. We then have an eleven-year-old Golden Retriever named Zara which our entire neighbourhood loves to greet as she is the sweetest baby. Our two cats are Shelby and Willow and definitely best friends with our dogs. Amanda does what she does because she loves animals and has always contributed in some way to their overall care.”
