The nice weather has finally arrived, and long with the sunshine the Alliston BIA RURBAN Farmer’s Market has returned to downtown Alliston.
The market features both produce and meats from local area farms as well as other food products, and work from artisans, and crafts people.
Michael and Rachel Ginn, from Ginn Family Woodworking in Innisfil came to the market for the first time on opening day on Saturday, May 28.
They brought a variety of their products including charcuterie boards, hand-crafted signs, and home artwork.
Ginn Family Woodworking uses a variety of woods to create the item at their home-based shop.
They also make larger items like furniture that just aren’t practical to bring to a one-day open air market.
“I’ve been woodworking for over ten years, and making a go of it business-wise for the past four or five years,” Michael explained. “This is something we could keep going even when things were being shut-down (due to the pandemic) because we make all of this at home. It gave us a way to increase in productivity even when other things were slowing down. We have charcuterie boards, custom made signs, and wall decorations. We also do all kinds of custom furniture like tables, benches, beds, all kinds of things. Custom work is what we do for the most part. If it’s made of wood, we can do it.”
The items on display are unique due to the different types of woods used, which are can be paired with other woods for unique designs and patterns.
“We do a lot of stuff with cherry and walnut,” Michael explained. “We also incorporate maple, mahogany, and ash. A lot of the wood is locally sourced which is nice. The application dictates the wood we like to use. We make a lot of different things – but it’s really whatever the customers are after.”
