There is a new place in Everett that takes ordinary objects and gives them a new life and purpose.
Rustic Refinery specializes in rustic and vintage home décor.
Owner, Darleene Reeve, has been restoring objects for over 30 years using several techniques. She usually appears at vendors’ markets and fairs, but over the years so many people have asked where they can find her finished pieces, she decided it was time to finally open a permanent shop.
“Everything in my store has been refurbished,” Darleene explained. “Everything is one-of-a-kind. All the pieces in here, I do myself. I don’t make furniture. Everything is something that I’ve found at garage sales or auctions. I’ve been crafting for over 30 years. Everyone would ask me where they can get my stuff when I’m not at a fair.”
Darleene can take almost any old object and turn it into a work of art. She sees what an old item can potentially become by using various techniques to restore and refurbish it.
“With a lot of old items, people end up discarding it or storing it in a room and it never gets used,” Darleene explained.
She can work with things like old saws, that may have an interesting design on the wood handle. Darleene can restore the metal saw blade and finish the handle so it becomes an art piece that could be put on display. She sees a real connection between her work and its history.
“Somebody’s grandpa used that saw to cut up wood for the wood stove,” Darleene said.
“It makes it feel more special when I’m working on it.”
Darleene will also be hosting workshops at the store and will be teaching how to restore old objects.
Rustic Refinery is already open, but there will be an official grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 24.
Adjala-Tosorontio deputy mayor Julius Lachs will arrive to join in with the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The doors will open at 10 a.m., with the ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m.
Everyone is welcome.
There will be door prizes and of course some cake.
Rustic Refinery is located at 6078 County Road 13, Everett.
