There may still be snow on the ground, and it will be several weeks before you start thinking about planting a spring garden; however, you can be prepared for when the warm weather arrives.
Seedy Saturday, hosted in partnership by the Beeton Horticultural Society, the D.A. Jones Branch (Beeton) of the New Tecumseth Public Library, and the Tottenham Beeton Business Improvement Association will once again take place at the library.
This event offers free seeds to residents, including a variety of vegetable and flower seeds. Included are seeds from tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, peppers, and lettuce.
Those who take advantage of this opportunity to plant a home garden with these seeds are asked to bring back some of the seeds from the vegetables they grow, which can then be distributed to others.
This way, there is always a supply of seeds on hand and the program can continue.
There will be a seed exchange, and seed starter kits will be available.
This will also be an opportunity to learn more about gardening and how to grow vegetables and flowers for a maximum yield.
Special guest speakers will bring information on the importance of light, growing the romantics, the top five gardening mistakes, and seed saving.
It is an opportunity to learn some growing tips from the experts.
There will also be a flower-arranging demonstration where you can learn to create a pleasing display.
While Seedy Saturday is an annual event, the library keeps a seed catalogue on hand, and seeds are available all year round.
Seedy Saturday will take place on Saturday, March 28, at the D.A. Jones Library in Beeton, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
