It’s been two years since football teams across the province have been able to get out on the gridiron and play their sport.
Football leagues cancelled the 2020 season as a result of the pandemic so no games took place that summer.
In 2021, regular league play was again cancelled. Some house league style play took place and some clubs even offered a flag football program as an alternative to keep kids busy.
This year, the sport is returning with full league play.
For younger players, this will be the first time they play football so much of practice will focus on learning the positions, and how the sport works.
Football can be a complicated sport with a lot of rules so the first time being involved requires a lot of attention to detail.
The TNT Express are fielding teams this summer and have already started indoor practice.
The Club hopes to get out on the field this week so players can get back action and hone their skills.
They have a full line-up of teams this year.
The Express’ home field is at Mel Mitchell Athletic Field in Beeton.
That facility is not yet open for use so the team will be moving to a local school to start early outdoor practice.
“We are currently still looking for players, specifically for Bantam and JV,” said Danielle Plaunte, executive member of the club. “We are hoping to have four full rosters including Atom, Peewee, Bantam, and JV divisions. Unfortunately, we had to fold our Varsity team due to lack of players.”
The Express have had a lot of success over the past few years with several championship winning teams on the field.
TNT hosts home games on Sunday through the summer at Mel Mitchell.
The season will get started on the Victoria Day long weekend and continues to the first week of August before heading into the playoffs.
