A man suspected of a bank robbery at the CIBC branch on Young Street in Alliston on Tuesday, July 4, is now the subject of a Canada-wide warrant as a result of what police say is a breach of statutory release.
On Tuesday, 54-year-old Marc Gauthier entered the local CIBC and appeared to have a firearm. He demanded money from a teller and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A photo of the suspect was immediately released to the public with a request to help identify the man.
Gauthier is now wanted by OPP in an armed robbery investigation as well as for breach of Statutory Release.
He is serving a 41-year sentence for 16 counts of robbery, eight counts of armed robbery, and eight counts of using a firearm while prohibited. Some of the other charges include possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, forcible confinement, discharging a firearm causing bodily harm, possession of explosive substance, escape lawful custody, assault, Break and Enter, theft and possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Gauthier.
He is known to frequent Barrie, Parry Sound and Quebec.
Gauthier is described as a Caucasian male, 54 years old, 5’7 (170 cm) and 176 lbs (80 kg), with a shaved head and possibly clean-shaven.
Gauthier has several tattoos, including a tombstone and heart on his left arm and a snake and skull on his right arm.
He is believed to be driving a late-model white Chevrolet Malibu.
Gauthier is wanted by Nottawasaga OPP for armed robbery.
