The Purveyors are coming to Alliston

Put on your toe tapping shoes and settle in for a fun filled evening of rollicking pub songs, vocal ballads that tear at your heart strings and ditties with side splitting lyrics.

The Purveyors, a Barrie based Celtic pub band headed by singer/songwriter Dave Hadfield, will be performing at St. John’s United Church in Alliston on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m.

The Purveyors will treat you to time-honoured tunes which include Hadfield’s humorous songs like “400 Waltz” and “Emily’s Barn” (organizer John Dodington says that this is one of his favourites), east coast favourites, jigs and reels – a lively high energy night of fun and good music in Celtic tradition.

Dave Hadfield is a Canadian singer/songwriter, author, wilderness adventurer, classic boat sailor and historic aircraft pilot.

Dave’s a Senior Pilot with Vintage Wings of Canada and performs Acrobatic Air Show displays in a P40 Kittyhawk sky fighter. He comes from a high-flying family, six of which are pilots including his brother Chris.  In 2012 “Jewel in the Night”, a “space carol” was adapted and recorded by Commander Chris Hadfield while on board The International Space Station and  released on Christmas Eve. In 2014 Dave’s song “In Canada” was performed and recorded on the family farm. This performance was released on Canada Day and garnered one million hits in only three days on YouTube.

Other members of the group include Jerry Levine, who Dave met in 1995. They hit it off and started making music together. They have been playing to delighted audiences ever since.

Dave’s folk-Celtic style perfectly matched Jerry’s marvelous improv instrumentals. Jerry’s wife, Liz, plays djembe and other percussion instruments and adds backup vocals.

Maggie Torelli adds her rich, sweet voice for solos and harmony. Renowned bassist/composer/producer Stuart Steinhart adds his extremely educated jazz influence to their sound. Marilyn Reesor, an accomplished musician who has played some of the largest cathedral organs in Europe doubles up on the fiddle with Jerry for some of the highest energy jigs you will ever hear.
