The good times seem to be coming back to the Tottenham Railers as the team is making huge strides both on and off the ice.
On the ice, the Railers played a gruelling three games in three days with road games on Friday in Niagara and Sunday in Thornhill.
Sandwiched in between those was a tough home assignment against local rivals, the Bradford Bulls.
Interim head coach Anthony Pullicino, challenged the team to get six points from the weekend, and the guys rose to the challenge with a hard-fought win over all three teams.
They are doing it without their talisman, captain Xavier Charbonneau, who is out for a prolonged period after a freak accident in training saw him with a nasty finger injury.
Friday saw Malik Thibeult-Boisvert have a two-goal game as they beat the Niagara Predators 5-3 with the team coming from two down to score five unanswered goals before the Predators earned a third goal.
Saturday saw the squad take the lead after 40 seconds over the Bulls, but they stormed back in front and led 4-2 before three unanswered markers gave the Railers a 6-4 win.
Bruno Parente was the First Star of the night with two goals and a helper.
Sunday saw the Railers travel to Thornhill (Nov. 24) to face the Toronto Flyers who went ahead early on. The teams exchanged goals and leads all the way through to the end when Nicolas Bosse scored into an open net in overtime for a 7-6 win.
Bruno Parente again stole the offensive show with two goals and four assists on the night giving him a team-leading 43 points so far this season with 18 goals and 25 assists.
The Railers are second in the GMHL South Conference with a 13-9-1 record.
Off the ice, the fans are starting to come back slowly, but surely and had a very successful night when they hosted the Beeton Stingers players. There are more theme nights coming up before Christmas for fans to get involved with.
“It is great to see the fans coming slowly back to the TCFC, especially after a year away in Newmarket.” said Game Day Manager Andy Wilson. “We are looking to build bridges with the community as a whole after so many years with crowds dwindling. We have a fantastic product on the ice and with some great local talent, more than we have seen for a while from the New Tecumseth area. Our aim is to get back the crowds from the Steam’s early years and, while we have a long way to go, we are focussed on making the TCFC the place to be on a Saturday night again.”
This Saturday (Nov. 30) the Railers face St George Ravens with a 7 p.m. puck drop.
Anyone who brings a donation to Our Town Food Bank will be admitted for half price on the night.
