The Alliston Hornets were on the road in Midland over the weekend to take on the Flyers and left the ice with their fifth win of the season after a solid first two periods that saw them take command of the game.
After the first period, the Hornets were leading 3-1.
Cole Turcotte had two first-period goals. Jacob Jackson got the other first-period goal.
In the second period, the Hornets kept up the pressure, scoring four unanswered goals to lead 7-1 going into the final frame.
Second-period Hornets goals came from Tristian Pitt, Will Millington, and Owen Fralick, and Turcotte picked up the hat trick with his third of the night.
Midland scored early in the third frame.
Alliston responded with two goals seven minutes apart.
Turcotte got his fourth of the night at 7:10 into the third.
Tristian Pitt got his second of the night at 14:41 into the period.
Midland hit the back of the net late in the period, but the game was already decided, and the Hornets left the ice with a 9-3 win.
Turcotte has now averaged a goal per game since the start of the season.
After the weekend, the Hornets have moved into first place in the North Carruthers Division of the PJHL with a 5-1 record and ten points – two ahead of Stayner and four ahead of Schomberg.
The Penetang Kings are in fourth place, followed by the Midland Flyers, Huntsville Otters, Orillia Terriers, Caledon Golden Hawks, and the Innisfil Spartans, who have yet to win a game this season.
The Hornets will be back on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre this coming Friday, October 6, to host the Stayner Siskins as both teams battle it out for first place in the division.
