In business circles, celebrating 20 years is a big milestone.
Anything beyond that is outstanding.
Williamson Automotive in Alliston is currently celebrating 45 years of supplying after-market auto parts and automotive supplies to both customers at their Church Street location as well as body shops and automotive service shops around the region.
The business was started in 1977 when founder George Williamson decided Alliston was the right place to open an automotive supply company.
“The business was originally named George Williamson,” explained current owner Ian Williamson. “My dad started the company. He opened the doors on June 20, 1977. My father was in sales for another company out of their Midland store. He would start in Midland and would go down through Stayner, through Alliston, down to Nobleton, to Barrie and back home. He sold to garages, farms, and townships. He always thought Alliston was a great spot. I joined the business in 1980.”
When the senior Williamson decided it was time to retire, Ian bought the business in 2000.
“My wife and I took over the business and the two of us have been running it ever since,” Ian explained. “We have aftermarket parts, paint supplies, and industrial supplies like tools.”
Many auto service places rely on Williamson to supply parts. They can provide parts for any make and model including foreign cars.
The store is packed with all sort of tools and auto accessories.
They have four delivery vehicles that are constantly on the road delivering parts around the region.
The store has six full-time and two part-time employees.
The people behind the counter are fully knowledgeable of the auto industry and the parts, and most have previous experience working in automotive repair.
With 45 years behind them, they are still growing as a company. They receive several deliveries of parts to their store every day.
Staying in business for over four decades means Williamson Automotive has achieved a long-standing level of trust in their many customers.
“We’ve lasted 45 years because we’ve had good service,” Ian explained. “Me and my staff – we care about what we are doing and we enjoy it. We have a great staff – we’re very lucky. They’re proud of what they do.”
