Winning weekend for Express

Peewee division

The Express got off to a good start in their game against the Clarington Knights when Rory McDonald had a solid run down the field.
McDonald followed up with another good effort for a first down.
Jake Barker took the ball and placed the Express on the one yard line to place the TNT squad in scoring position.
A quick pass from QB Barker to receiver Evan Medeiros gave the Express their first TD of the game.
The Express held tough for the rest of the half with good defensive efforts from Hunter Thom, Crue Horst, and Fernando Iannetta.
In the second half the Express turned out a solid defensive effort keeping the Clarington team pinned in their own end.
With good offensive blocking from Tanner Hawkins and Jordan Pike, Lucas Snowdon scored the second Express touchdown when he crashed through the line to score.
Snowdon got his second of the game late in the half.
The Express peewees capped the game at 18-0, for their first win of the season.
The pewees will be back in action at Mel Mitchell Field on Sunday, June 12, when they host the York Region Lions.
Game time is 11 a.m.

Junior Varsity division

The Express Junior Varsity team won their first game of the season with well played game against the Cambridge Lions.
Mitchell Giglio got the TNT squad off to a good start with a huge return on the opening kick-off.
The Express play for the first TD started with a good ball carry by Alex Dolles then a nice pass to Mitchell Giglio from quarterback Talon Horst.
Justin Fawcett took the pass in the end zone for the TD and Declan McGuire followed up with the one point convert.
Christopher Burak finished off the fist quarter by breaking through the line and dropping the Cambridge quarterback.
The second quarter started with another TD when Justin Fawcett took a pass in the end zone.
The team pulled a fake on the kick and ran the ball in for the extra two points and the Express went ahead 15-0.
Talon Horst called his own number late in the quarter and sprinted along the sidelines to squeeze in just inside the out of bounds marker to score.
In the second half the Express started out strong with Christopher Burak crashing through the line for a quarterback sack.
Mid way in the third quarter, Alex Dolles sprinted down the sidelines to score and the team made good on the convert.
The Cambridge team got on the scoreboard with a touchdown in the second quarter.
The Lions followed up with a second TD to close the gap but were trailing 28-19 with one quarter left to play.
The Express finished off the game with a final goal with less than two minutes left on the clock when Mitchell Giglio took the ball to the five yard line and Declan McGuire made good on the TD on the next play.
The final was 35-19 for the Express.
The Express JVs will be back on their home field on Sunday, June 12, to host the Hamilton Varsity Tigercats.
The kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Bantam division

The Express Bantams got their first win of the season when they hosted the Cambridge Lions.
The bantams were off to a good start in Sunday’s game when Jagger Horst returned the opening kick-off for a huge gain.
The follow up was an early touchdown from Cory Akerfeldt and a one point convert that gave the Express a seven-point lead.
The Express got their second TD on a pass from quarterback Michael Rabiega to receiver Jagger Horst.
Horst got his second of the game on another pass that put the Express ahead by 21 points with a successful convert.
After giving up a goal to the Lions, the TNT squad responded when Jett Horst crashed through the middle of the Cambridge line to score.
The Express defence put up a solid line with some good work by Andrew Brown, Landon Altamirano, Drew Lehman, and Blake Williams.
Quarterback Rabiega scored the last touchdown of the half.
The Express kept up the pressure in the second half with Akerfeldt getting another goal to end the game at 42-7.
The bantams will be back on their home turf on Sunday, June 12, to host the Hamilton Varsity Tigercats.
Game time is 1 p.m.
