After three-year hiatus, Yoga in the Park, hosted by Monica Watson, owner of Gama Healing Arts Centre Alliston, “Yoga in the Park” returned to Alliston’s Riverdale Park Bandshell, on June 21 – on International Yoga Day and National Indigenous People’s Day 2022 – in time for the Summer Solstice.
Facilitated by Watson (aka Sparking River) the event was held in collaboration with Myriam St. Hilaire from OMYoga Alliston, and was offered as a fundraiser for SHIFT Alliston.
In all, the by donation event raised $200.
Speaking during the event was Watson, St. Hilaire, Robin Boonstra of Ruby Red Yoga Studio and Namaste Nutrition, and Chris Campbell.
“Through the pandemic, GAMA Pilates & Yoga Studio supported the community with mental health and trauma related issues and suicide prevention, rebranding in 2022,” Watson told The Times. “When a community has access to yoga, it’s a good community to be in!”
Ruby Red Yoga opened up in September 2020 and Om Yoga Alliston is set to open on August 1 – in the space currently occupied by Ruby Red, as Boonstra rebrands her business with a focus on coaching for wellness and bodily acceptance.
“Chris Campbell shared how amazing it was for him to recognize his ability to channel Reiki (Life Force Energy) through his hands and how challenging it was to overcome the fear of speaking out and sharing his gifts. He is planning Reiki Shares and hopes to open this energy exchange for the community,” said Watson.
During Yoga in the Park, Watson led the community through an intuitive yoga and breath session followed by a healing sound bath and solstice ceremony, honouring Mother Earth, in gratitude for the light and warmth of the Sun.
“Everyone left feeling like they were floating, peaceful, calm and really, really happy!” she said.
