The Simcoe County District School Board will be offering social and recreational programs for students with a development profile consistent with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Programming offered from January to March will focus on using recreation, problem-solving, coding, music, and play skills to support social skills development.

The programs will be offered both virtually and in person.

Each program offers unique training.

In Children’s Friendship training, there will be a nine-week, evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated children with a development profile consistent with ASD, who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends.

The Music Social Skills program is music-based and is designed to improve emotional regulation and social skills by focusing on singing, dancing, and playing instruments in a group setting.

The Play Ball Kidz Recreation Program is a multi-component recreation program designed to improve gross motor skills and social skills.

Parents and guardians are an important part of the programs and will be required to attend. They will also receive resources and support to help children develop and practice new skills at home and school.

Spaces in this program are limited. You can complete the initial application form on the SCDSB website at scdsb.on.ca/inclusiverecreationprograms by Dec. 16.

You may be contacted for an initial telephone interview or screening session to assess if the program is appropriate for your child.
